Hindsight is 20/20
Do you ever notice how much more clarity you can get on a matter once time has passed? When you're caught in the midst of whatever is troubling you, it often feels like there's no way out. Your mind churns, doing what it does best—processing, thinking, analyzing, and ultimately, trying to solve your issue.
This reaction is perfectly normal. Our minds are wired to find solutions, to dissect problems until they’re understood or resolved. But this natural tendency can sometimes lead us down a path of overthinking, where we become so consumed by the problem that we lose sight of everything else. We get stuck in the minutiae, missing the bigger picture. It’s like trying to find your way out of a dense forest by focusing only on the trees directly in front of you.
However, there’s another way—a way that doesn’t involve overexerting our mental faculties.
Leo Tolstoy, the renowned author of War and Peace, encapsulated this idea beautifully:
“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”
These words resonate deeply. Patience and time—two seemingly simple concepts, yet when combined, they hold immense power.
Patience is about allowing the natural order of things to unfold. It’s about resisting the urge to rush or force a resolution and instead trusting the process. When we are patient, we give ourselves the space to breathe, to observe, and to let events take their course without unnecessary interference.
Time, on the other hand, offers us perspective. As the days, weeks, and months pass, what once felt overwhelming begins to shrink in significance. Time allows the fog to lift, revealing insights that were initially not available. It also grants us the opportunity for healing—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Reflecting on my journey of healing from chronic fatigue syndrome, I’ve come to appreciate these two warriors—patience and time—on a profound level. It was three years ago last week when my immune and nervous systems went haywire, setting off a chain of debilitating symptoms. In my quest for healing, I sought help from various sources—regular MDs, naturopaths, energy workers, and psychic healers. Each played a role in my recovery, and for that, I am immensely grateful.
During this period, I found myself “chasing my symptoms,” desperately trying to make them go away. I was constantly in fix-it mode, focused on getting rid of the illness. But now, with the gift of time, I see things differently. The chronic fatigue syndrome that once felt like a relentless enemy is now something I view with a different lens. I’ve realized that the real focus should be on the health of my nervous system.
The nervous system, particularly the vagus nerve, is intricately connected to every major organ and body system, including our brain. By nurturing and healing the nervous system, there’s potential for bringing the entire body into alignment. This realization didn’t come overnight—it unfolded gradually, as time allowed me to see my condition in a new light.
Yet, even with this newfound perspective, patience remains essential. Healing is not a linear process; it requires ongoing work, careful listening to the body, and an understanding of its subtle signals. As I continue on this path, I practice patience daily, knowing that each small step brings me closer to full alignment and well-being.
I stand before you as a warrior for health—not just for myself, but for you as well. We all have battles to fight, whether physical, emotional, or mental. And in these battles, patience and time are our greatest allies. They give us the strength to endure, the clarity to see, and the wisdom to understand that sometimes, the best course of action is to simply let things unfold in their own time.
